God's Protection from Sickness and Viruses

Corona virus, ebola plague, swine flu, mad cow disease, influenza - the list could go on. Every time the news reports a new virus outbreak people, including God's own people, begin to panic. If God’s people would simply take God at His Word and claim His promises then we would not allow fear to overtake us. In this lesson Pastor Troy Edwards tells you how to claim God's supernatural protection over yourself and your family. You will learn how to stop allowing man to constantly spread information that keeps you worried and fearful. Visit www.cvbibleteachingcenter.org for more information.

God's Provision by F. B. Meyer

“There would be bread and water, immunity from disease, fertility of cattle, and the fulfillment of the term of life. It is not necessary to spiritualise all these, though they have their spiritual counter parts. But godliness has the promise of this life as well as of the next.”
F. B. Meyer on Exodus 23:25, 25; Some Secrets of Christian Living (Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan Publications)

Our Right to Claim God's Provision by A. B. Simpson

“‘Give us this day our daily bread’ This gives to every child of God the right to claim a Father’s supporting and providing love.”

Not God's Will to Suffer Sickness - Andrew Murray

“The Lord spoke to the disciples of divers sufferings which they should have to bear, but when He speaks of sickness, it is always as of an evil caused by sin and Satan, and from which we should be delivered.”
Andrew Murray, Divine Healing (Springdale, PA: Whitaker House, 1982), p. 9

Sickness is NOT part of the sufferings that Christ says we must endure (1 Pet. 4:14-16; James 5:13-15).

Satan's Plan is to Blame God

“Yet to make it appear that what he [Satan] does is done immediately by the Lord, is almost always his plan.”
Charlotte Elizabeth, Principalities and Powers in Heavenly Places (New York: John S. Taylor & Co., 1842), p. 42

Even as far back as 1842 people, by just simply studying Scripture, recognized that one of Satan's tactics was to steal, kill, destroy and inflict sickness while making God look like the inflict-er of all of these trials. Why is it that, despite all of the light God has given us, people still do not recognize Satan's tactics today? Why do we continue to blame God for the work of the enemy?

Give Thanks IN Everything

Some have taken passages such as Ephesians 5:20 (which we dealt with yesterday) and 1 Thessalonians 5:18 and taught from them that we are to thank God for suffering sickness, disease, tragedy and other misfortunes as if He were the One who inflicted them upon us for some mysterious "good". This is NOT what these passages are teaching.

We do not thank God for EVERYTHING as if He were the one bringing them upon us. God has works (John 14:10-12) and Satan also has works (1 John 3:8) and the Bible clearly distinguishes between the two. We must NOT thank God for the devil’s works.

If we are to give thanks for everything, then why didn’t Jesus practice this in the middle of this storm (Mark 4:35-41)? Why didn’t He simply thank the father for the storm instead of rebuking it? We could cite numerous other examples.

Nevertheless, to be thankful to God even in THE MIDST of trials or REGARDLESS of the difficulties (and not BECAUSE of the trials or difficulties) is a powerful weapon against the devil (1 Cor. 15:57). God is able to change any circumstance brought by the devil as we trust Him (Ps. 91:15-16; Rom. 8:28).

Give Thanks for EVERYTHING?

The great Wesleyan Bible expositor, Adam Clarke, interpreted Ephesians 5:20 as follows: "Giving thanks always - God is continually loading you with his benefits; you deserve nothing of his kindness; therefore give him thanks for his unmerited bounties."

Some have read the King James Version of Ephesians 5:20 and interpret it with the idea that we are to thank God for sickness, tragedy and adversity as well as blessings. People can often read such passages in a fatalistic manner.

God does not want our thanks for what the devil is doing in our lives. He wants thanks for what He is doing, which means even when the devil attacks and brings adversity I can thank God for His deliverance, protection and victory over every work of the enemy.

Jesus DETHRONED Satan and ENTHRONED Us

What Jesus Did to Satan:
Therefore since these children referred to have the same mortal nature, Jesus also shared it, like them, in order that by his death he might dethrone the lord of death, the devil. (Hebrews 2:14; Goodspeed New Testament)

What Jesus Did for Us:
And God has raised you up and enthroned you with Christ Jesus in heaven. (Eph. 2:6; The Spoken English New Testament)

You are in Christ, the Victorious One. You have authority over Satan. You are on the side of victory. Stop walking in defeat.

SAY of the Lord - Speak It!

"I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust" (Psalm 91:1-2) On this, F. B. Meyer wrote, “You must avow it. Do not only think it, but say it. Keep saying it because it is true, rather than because you feel it to be true.” (Great Verses Through The Bible, p. 227)

Set Him on High

“….whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe” (Prov. 29:25). The word “safe” in this passage means, “to be (too) high (for capture).” In Psalm 91 God promises us protection from a multitude of dangers and says, “I will set him on high, because he hath known my name” (Psalm 91:14).
