Prophecy and Prayer by Charles Usher (1967)

“Divine prophecy is not necessarily a revelation of the divine will; it is often a foretelling of what God (in His foreknowledge) sees will be the inevitable result of evil systems. Therefore, we may be in perfect harmony with God’s will in praying against those things coming to pass.”
Usher, Charles The Prayer Life (Fort Washington, PA: Christian Literature Crusade, 1967), pp. 35-36

The Reason for Evil and Suffering in this World

The Reason for Evil and Suffering in this World

"We know [for a fact] that we are of God, and the whole world [around us] lies in the power of the evil one [opposing God and His precepts]." (1 John 5:19; The Amplified Bible)

One very simple answer for the evil and suffering in this world is that there is an enemy who is opposed to God and has great influence over the hearts of men and women that are currently disconnected from God.

William Matson states it well when he writes, “God, then, did not make this world a scene of sorrow. It was not His purpose that it should be such, but the contrary. It became  what it is by the deed of Satan, in opposition to the will of God.” (The Adversary: His Purpose, Power and Person, 1891, p. 43)

God's laws and precepts are meant to help mankind to live in ways that could eliminate all evil and suffering and bring about peace, harmony, health and wholeness. During the millenial reign of Christ when Satan is bound for 1000 years and God's laws are prominent then all violence, sickness, and suffering will be eliminated. Peace and harmony will prevail.

Because the time has not yet come for Satan to be punished (Matt. 8:29; Rev. 12:12), he is presently permitted to spread his misinformation and lies about God. He is presently allowed to persuade men with lies about how rebellion against God's ways are the best ways.

Sadly, men continue to buy into and embrace his deceptions The LGBTQ agenda, sexual promiscuity, abortion (unborn baby murder), rebellion against authority, atheism, and other horrendous activities are on the rise. Along with these comes violence, the spreading of death and diseases, neglect of the poor and hungry, and other painful results. None of these are willed or desired by God because they are the results of acting upon information that is opposed to God's precepts.

Understanding the Biblical truth about God's loving character as well as the Bible truth about the malignant character of the enemy opposed to God's laws of love will help us to stop blaming God for the evil and suffering in this world and place the blame exactly where it belongs - on the devil and mankind who willingly believe and follow the lies of Satan.

Why? - Insights from Our Books

“For years theologians have told us that Job was all about God’s agenda (that he was using Satan to test Job). However, when this book is read carefully we can see that it is really about Satan’s agenda to malign God’s character.” (p. 51)

Our Difficulty Obeying Christ's Commision to Share the Gospel

Yesterday I was walking and contemplating on why we find it so difficult to obey God in evangelizing the lost. Then the Lord brought to my mind two passages of Scripture:

"....the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." (Matt. 26:41b)

"But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway." (1 Cor. 9:27)

Matthew 26:41 tells us why we have such a difficult time sharing the gospel. We know that we should and we want to obey Christ's commission to do it, but our flesh is weak. It wants relaxation and entertainment. That is why "church programs" with good singing and motivational preaching are more enjoyable to the flesh than knocking on doors and telling people about Jesus.

The second passage tells us what we must do with the flesh. We cannot allow it to tell us what to do. We must command our bodies to overcome fear and laziness. We must remind our bodies that we are responsible for those people around us who may die and spend an eternity without Jesus. We must tell our bodies to shake off its desire for fleshly indulgences and share Jesus.

This coming Saturday at 10am our church will be spending some time in the surrounding area to share the love of Jesus with the lost. But even if you can't come to be a part of what we are doing please tell a neighbor, a friend, a relative, a co-worker, someone you see in the subway or bus stop, that Jesus loves them and wants to spend eternity with them.

Divine Healing Part 2

Does God Personally Fit Vessels for Destruction?

Calvinist Proof-Texts Answered

“What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction?” (Romans 9:22)

Does God Personally Fit Vessels for Destruction?

“….if the divine Being has patiently bore with those objects of his displeasure, that had been working out their own destruction, why may he not reveal himself to make them feel his vindictive power?” (Rom. 9:22; Daniel Mace New Testament)

“And what will you do if God, although ready to vent his righteous anger and execute his power upon those who have made themselves liable for judgment, puts up with them only for a while longer?” (Living Water Translation)

Commentary: The passage contradicts Calvinist ideology. Why would God “suffer long” people He allegedly predestined to destruction? Greek scholar W. E. Vines writes, “…. ‘fitted’ is in the Middle Voice, indicating that the vessels of wrath fitted themselves for ‘destruction.’” (Vine’s Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words, pp. 303-304).  Stephen Davies also writes, “In the ninth chapter of the Romans, St. Paul draws a broad line of demarcation, which is much more obvious in the original than can be made in a translation.... In these words the apostle assures us that the vessels of wrath ‘fit themselves;’ for the term is in the middle voice, and besides cannot agree with the word ‘God,’ either in number or gender; (He does not, therefore, fit them)” (On the Nature of Divine Agency in Reference to the Inspiration of the Scriptures, p. 172).

Divine Manipulator?

“If God is the divine manipulator of all events then we must believe that men such as Hitler, Mussolini, Khadafy, and every other murderous dictators both past and present had the best reflection of God’s character.” (Untying God's "Nots," p. 172)

Does God Put on Us More than We Can Bear?

Some people say, “God will never put on us any more than we can bear.” The Bible does not teach this. On the contrary, the Bible says:

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” (1 Cor. 10:13)

  1. The difficulties in our lives are COMMON TO MAN. This is not God’s doing (James 1:13-15).
  2. God is the one who MAKES A WAY OF ESCAPE from the trial. He is not the one who brings the trial.
  3. Trials and tests are brought by the ENEMY, not God (1 Pet. 5:8-10; Rev. 2:10; 1 Thess. 3:5).

Read your Bible and stop reading things INTO your Bible that are not there.
