Church Father Tertullian and the Origin of Sickness

A slide from a series of Bible studies on the fact that God does not send sickness and disease and that it was never His idea. Later Judaism before Christ now the early church believe that sickness originated with God. On the contrary, Satan is given full credit for this.

Sadly, there are some in the church who believe that God either personally inflicts sickness on people as punishment or that He "blesses" people with it for His glory and to help build their character. God does not use satanic tools born of evil to do His holy work in us.

Acts 10:38 says, "How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him." We need to recognize, as Scripture does, and as those who followed in the footsteps of the apostles did, that sickness originates from evil entities. Sickness must be RESISTED by God's power and NOT EMBRACED.

Does God Cause Unbelief?

Calvinism as a whole is cultic and contrary to Scripture. But among some of their most outlandish unbiblical ideas is the teaching that God Himself causes the unbelief of sinners. This flies in the face of Scripture where Jesus commends faith and rebukes unbelief as well numerous other places in Scripture where we are warned against walking in unbelief.

Of course, Calvinists have their "proof-texts". However, when we examine them carefully we can still see that their proof-texts do not teach what the Calvinist claims.

It is indeed sad that Calvinists have doctrines that cast aspersions on God's character. Their only concern seems to be in proving their erroneous philosophical assertion rather than showing the world that we serve a wonderful God who created all in love.

The Pope's Suggested Change to the Lord's Prayer

The Pope's Suggested Change to the Lord's Prayer

Some in the Christian community, particularly among Non-Catholics, are a little perturbed over the Pope's suggestion that we change a line in the Lord's prayer: "....the pope suggested a better translation of the Greek prayer from the New Testament would be something along the lines of, “Do not let us fall into temptation.”

Personally, since I am not Roman Catholic so I doubt that there is a whole lot the Pope and I would agree on. However, on THIS POINT the Pope and I agree 100%. Our Heavenly Father NEVER leads people into temptation. That line in the Lord's prayer needs to be interpreted in the light of the way language was used in the Near East in which God is often said to do that which He only permitted. The Pope is right to believe that this should have been translated in the PERMISSIVE rather than in the CAUSATIVE sense.

John Calvin Versus Scripture

“The devil, and the whole train of the ungodly, are in all directions, held in by the hand of God as with a bridle, so that they can neither conceive any mischief, nor plan what they have conceived, nor how muchsoever they may have planned, move a single finger to perpetrate, unless in so far as he permits, nay unless in so far as he commands, that they are not only bound by his fetters but are even forced to do him service”
John Calvin, Institutes of Christian Religion, Book 1, Chapter 17, Paragraph 11

“He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. (1 John 3:8)

Comments: If God is controlling that Satan and evil men (influenced by Satan - John 8:39-44) are doing then Jesus came to destroy the works of God. Thankfully, we see that Jesus and God are ONE which means that the Father and Son and Holy Spirit are not controlling the actions of Satan and evil men. God came to destroy the works opposed to His character. John Calvin is a false teacher.

God's Character of Love and Fairness

Joseph Woodward in his book, "Understanding TRIALS to Better Understand God" writes the following:

"I firmly believe that one of the most significant things we will see happening, as we advance toward the coming of Jesus, is a great revelation of the nature - the character - of God. His character is essentially loving, merciful, good, and gentle." (p. 175)

I also believe that the truth concerning God's character is one of the important end times messages. For too many centuries Satan has attempted to paint God in colors that is more like himself. The devil has blinded men to the Biblical truth about God by having "ministers" teach about a God who creates and distributes evil, and who is arbitrary, hateful, mysterious, and constantly angry.

The good news is that God is nothing like the devil or the way that the devil has made Him appear to be (using pulpit ministers to spread this propaganda about Him). God desires that we understand and know Him. He wants us to know the truth about His character.

God specifically wants us to know that He is loving, kind, FAIR (that is what is meant by "judgment") and has nothing to do with evil ("righteous"). He is not behind sickness, disease, poverty, accidents, or any of life's negatives. He is the deliverer from them all. You CAN UNDERSTAND AND KNOW this God.

Be blessed today.

Acts 2:23 - Calvinist Prooftexts Answered

Sometimes the way a verse is translated can appear to support the idea that God predetermined the murder of His Son. This is the way that Acts 2:23 is read and understood by many people, but especially Calvinists. However, the word used in the KJV for "delivered up" (ekdotos) can also be translated "given over" or "given". Note two literal translations of Acts 2:23:

....this One given to you by the before-determined counsel and foreknowledge of God, you having taken by lawless hands, having crucified Him, you put Him to death. (Green's Literal Translation)

Him, being given you by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by a wicked hand have fastned to a cross, and slain (William Whiston New Testament)

Now take note of a very familiar passage:

For God so loved the world, that he GAVE his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)

When you look at the literal translations cited above and compare them with John 3:16 we see that it was God giving Jesus for our salvation that was foreknown and predetermined by God's counsel, not His death. Did God know that the men would ultimately kill HIs Son? Yes (Isa. 53:4-10). However, the Calvinist is wrong to claim that God predetermined this murder to take place. The idea of murder was from thoughts planted into the minds of wicked men by Satan (John 8:39-44).

God gave these men the gift of His Son. That is what was predetermined. These men took God's gift and allowed Satan to influence them to  murder Him. The murder was not God's predetermined plan. But oh joy of joys. Satan's act of hatred was turned over on him because, by killing an innocent man, he forfeited any rights that he had to rule mankind. Now the keys of death and hell belong to Jesus (Rev. 1:18). He offers freedom to all people trapped in Satan's kingdom (Acts 26:18; Col. 1:12-14).

Acts 4:27-28 - Calvinist Proof-Texts Answered

Calvinists like to present a string of "gotcha" Bible verses to prove their awful doctrines that denigrate God's character. However, these verses are usually misquoted and often are mistranslated. Acts 4:27-28 is one of many used by the Calvinist to teach that God controls all of the actions of men, including sinful ones.

However, when the words from this passage are translated from the Greek and rendered in the correct order then it presents Christ as the predetermined one who men sought to kill. Note how the one literal translation renders the passage:

"For truly both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the nations and the peoples of Israel, were gathered together against Your holy child Jesus, whom You anointed, to do whatever Your hand and Your counsel before-determined to be done." (Green’s Literal Version; Emphasis added)

From this we can see that it was not the acts of murder by the religious leaders that were predetermined by God but our Lord’s mission to seek and save that which is lost.

Are God's Ways Mysterious?

God's ways are only mysterious to those who do not know Him. Yet the Lord wants us to know and understand Him (Jer. 9:24). He is not behind sickness, disease, car accidents, sin, and failure to receive the Lord Jesus Christ and be born again. Satan has blinded men to the truth by having them blame God for these things under the lie of "mystery".

Reject this false teaching and remember that God makes His ways known to men. He is the forgiver and deliverer from sin. He is the protector, healer, and provider. These are the ways of God as seen in Jesus.

Acts 13:48 - Calvinist Proof-Texts Answered

The Calvinists have a strange doctrine that teaches that God, before any individual was ever created, decided who who be saved and who would be damned, Those who would be saved would be forced against their will to be regenerated. Once they are regenerated then they would be given a "gift of faith" in order to believe for salvation.

All of this goes against the Biblical order (John 1:12; 3:15-16, 36; 5:24; 6:40, 47; 12:36; 20:31; Acts 16:31; Rom. 10:8-10, 13; Eph. 1:13; 1 John 5:1, 13). However, the Calvinist have their misinterpreted proof-texts that they think supports their false teaching, Acts 13:48 being one of them.

Yet, Acts 13:48 would clearly go against the other passages cited above if we accept its rendering in the KJV and most other English translations. Yet, the Bible contains no CONTRADICTIONS, only EXPLANATIONS. Therefore, a better rendering of this passage is as follows: "“And while the heathens were hearing, they were rejoicing and glorifying the message about the Lord and as many as were believing were being set into eternal life.” (Acts 13:48; The Power New Testament).

Does God Lead Into Temptation - Interpret Bible with Bible

R. A. Torrey said, "Wherever you find a difficult passage in the Bible, there is always some passage elsewhere that explains its meaning." (How to Succeed in the Christian Life, p. 56).

When we find passages in Scripture that seem to denigrate God's character, the key is NOT to build a theology of God from them (as Calvinists have done for example) but to read all of Scripture and interpret its meaning.

Bible passages that appear to implicate God in some questionable act are usually PERMISSIVE in understanding and this is proven by interpreting it with other Scripture. Remember, THERE ARE NO CONTRADICTIONS IN SCRIPTURE - ONLY EXPLANATIONS.

Adjusting John 3:16 for Calvinists

Calvinists misrepresent God by teaching the false unbiblical idea that He preselected some to be saved and others to be lost before man was ever created.. Calvin wrote, "..we say that God once established by his eternal and unchangeable plan those whom he long before determined once for all to receive into salvation, and those whom, on the other hand, he would devote to destruction. ...he has barred the door of life to those whom he has given over to damnation." Institutes, Bk 3, Ch 21, s. 7

Furthermore, Calvinists teach that one is automatically regenerated (irresistible grace) and then they believe. Again, this is in contrast to Scripture. So, in order to help the Calvinist, we will adjust the Scripture for them to make their square peg fit in the round hole.

Celebrate - The Seventh "C" for Claiming God's Promises

In our seventh and final "C" to claiming God's promises we learn that we must CELEBRATE or give praise to God even before we see the manifestation of what He has promised. Romans 4:20 in The Living Bible is paraphrased well in regards to this: "But Abraham never doubted. He believed God, for his faith and trust grew ever stronger, and he praised God for this blessing even before it happened."

In Isaiah 38:18 we read, "For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not CELEBRATE thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth." The Hebrew word for "truth" here is "emeth" which is in reference to God's faithfulness to His promises. Another translation says, "For Sheol (the place of the dead) cannot confess and reach out the hand to You, death cannot praise and rejoice in You; they who go down to the pit cannot hope for Your faithfulness [to Your promises; their probation is at an end, their destiny is sealed]."

Hence, while we are alive and have breath we are to CELEBRATE (praise and rejoice) over God's faithfulness to fulfill His promises to us long before we see the visible tangible results of our faith. When we do, God will ensure that all that He has promised will come to pass.

Adjusting Scripture for Calvinists on Sin

Calvinists have consistently taught that nothing happens in this world apart from God decreeing and ordaining it. Every murder, rape (including those of children), accident, tragedy, sickness, and perversion is somehow a part of some "secret" will of God. This twisted ideology presents a deity worse than Satan. While it claims to get its support from the Bible, Calvinism TWISTS the Scriptures that it misquotes for its support and complete ignores or reinterprets others to fit their presentation of their monstrous deity whom they claim is the God of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Therefore, we thought that we would help them out by reinterpreting those uncomfortable passages of Scripture that refute their false teachings so that they can feel they have some Biblical support for the lies they spread that destroys the faith of some Christians, makes others fatalistic, and turns men into atheists.

Does God Make People Err? (Meme)

O LORD, why hast thou made us to err from thy ways, and hardened our heart from thy fear? Return for thy servants' sake, the tribes of thine inheritance. (Isa. 63:17)

Commentary:
“So again, Isaiah lxiii. 17. “O Lord, why hast thou made us to err from thy ways, and hardened our heart from thy fear?” should be, “Why hast thou suffered us to err from thy ways, to harden our hearts against the fear of thee ?” Many erroneous translations akin to these, have led some crude speculatists to circulate highly dangerous opinions as to the Divine conduct.”

Texas Church Shooting and Our Time to Go

Texas Church Shooting and Our Time to Go

Troy Edwards

We should have known that it would happen. It was not too long after the church mass murder of over 20 people in a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas on November 5, 2017 that a Hollywood celebrity decided to politicize this tragedy by blaming the Republicans. I am sure that this will help to continue their fight for “gun control”.

While those who use these types of tragedies to further their political agenda disturb me, I am more horrified by “Christians” who use it to promote an idea about Go that, in the long run, gives a monstrous depiction of him. While discussing this tragedy on a Christian forum one individual wrote, “This really grabs my heart for these people. We do not understand, but we must be ready at all times if it is our time to go be with Jesus.”

Time to go to be with Jesus? I do not question the heart-felt sympathy of the individual who wrote this. I do not doubt that the person meant well. I only question the statement as it is written since such statements coming from the Christian community has led those outside of it to believe that god plans and orchestrates such tragic events. Whether the person who said this intended it or not, the wording appears to say that Jesus sends crazed murderers to shoot people whose “so-called time to go to be with Him” has arrived.

Again, it is not my intention to target a particular individual but to address a whole ideology that is within the church. Rest assured that sincere (though sincerely wrong) ministers in a number of pulpits around the world will attempt to “comfort” their parishioners by reminding them that “God is sovereign, He is in control, and that He had a reason for this tragedy.” They will tell them “we may not understand God’s purposes for this tragedy in this lifetime but we can take comfort that He is in control of all that happens.”

Teachings of this nature are the seedbeds of atheism. The problem that I have found with many believers is that they give little attention to the fact that there is a war going on in the heavenlies (Daniel 10:10-21; Ephesians 6:10-18; Rev. 12:7-12). So many of the things that are blamed on God’s sovereignty can be better understood in the light of this truth. God has an enemy who is opposed to all that is good. Tragic shootings such as the one that occurred in Sutherland Springs, Texas was not orchestrated by God in any sense. This was the work of the enemy of God and man, the one known as Satan. Scripture says:

The thief [Satan] cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. (John 10:10)

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (John 8:44)

Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous. (1 John 3:12)

Jesus is not sitting in Heaven with a Calendar scheduling people’s day of death. Furthermore, there is no guarantee that everyone in that church knew Jesus, which means their death definitely went against His will (Eze. 18:32; 33:11; 1 Tim. 2:4; 2 Pet. 3:9). Such people were at this church but never came to know Christ certainly are not with Him.

When I confronted one of the “God’s timing” believers with some of these Biblical truths, the following question was posed to me:

I’m not sure I understand your reasoning. Are you saying God has absolutely nothing to do with the timing of death for any person? The time and means of your future death is not in God’s hands?

Those who hold such positions simply are ignorant of the Biblical truth that God is not directly responsible for anyone’s death – timing or otherwise. Scripture says, “The last ENEMY that shall be destroyed is death” (1 Cor. 15:26). Death is an enemy of God and a product of satanic origin (Heb. 2:14-15). Death came into this world as the result of sin and not because of a pre-planned timing of God (Rom. 5:12). For one to even claim that deaths are the result of God’s pre-planned timing makes Him responsible for the tragedies of the Sutherland Springs murders no matter how one may choose to spin it. One may as well blame God for suicides and abortions with this logic (and sadly, many actually do. See my book, “Untying God’s ‘Nots’” for proof and refutation of this).

Therefore, the tragic murder and deaths that come as the result of such tragic events as the Sutherland Springs, Texas shooting must never be attributed to God. Satan is the ruler over the evil and darkness in this world and not our Heavenly Father, our Lord Jesus, or the precious Holy Spirit (Acts 26:18; Eph. 6:10-12; Col. 1:12-14).

God is just as hurt over this tragedy as anyone else. He has a plan to end all of this evil one day but until that day comes, we must be vigilant in prayer and stand on His Word while exercising our authority over the satanic forces attacking God’s people.

Teaching coming from Christian circles that makes God the responsible party for tragedies such as the one in Sutherland Springs, Texas has a tendency to produce atheists, haters of God, and fatalistic, fearful “Christians”. None of these are good products. They do not represent the truth about our loving, kind, and benevolent God who desires the salvation of every single human soul.

==========================================

For a deeper understanding concerning issues of death, God’s timing, and where His responsibility lies concerning these issues, we highly recommend our book, “Does God Send Sickness?”

Confess - The 6th "C" in Claiming God's Promises

The sixth "C" for claiming God's promises is to line up the words of our mouths with what God has promised in His Word. When the promises of God do not seem to be manifesting and our circumstances appear to be contrary to everything that God has promised we must, more than ever, get a firm grip on our tongue and make it say only what God has said. We must firmly declare the Word of God over our circumstances rather than affirm the circumstances themselves, thus giving them the power over us.

The Good News Translation says, "We must continue to hold firmly to our declaration of faith. The one who made the promise is faithful." Adam Clarke says, “Thy faithfulness” means “That which binds thee to accomplish the promise made.” When God makes a promise He is then bound to it by the fact that He is faithful. His faithfulness leaves him with no choice but to accomplish what he has promised. We must keep this characteristic of God in mind in trying and difficult situations that look contrary to what He has promised. Keep saying what God has promised to do and you will see the situation changed for His glory.

Does God Make People Eat the Flesh of their Own Children?

Does God Make People Eat the Flesh of their Own Children?

By Troy J. Edwards

While going through my Facebook feed this morning I ran across this post from one of God's critics. It reminded me (as ignorant FB posts often do) why it is necessary to teach the truth concerning God's "Christ-like" character of love and kindness. Part of our vindication of God includes examining some of the very Scriptures used by atheists, agnostics, and "Christians" who paint a picture of a God that most of us truly do not like but are afraid to say so. While "Christians" are primarily at fault for ignoring proper principles of Bible interpretation, thus adding fuel to the fire of atheist propaganda, let's focus primarily on the atheist for right now.

The atheist is too often looking for evidence to use against God so he is unable to do an unbiased study of the Scriptures. If the atheist was not attempting to MANUFACTURE evidence to support his vendetta against the Almighty then he/she might actually see how they have misinterpreted Leviticus 26:27-29, which is the passage being quoted but misused in the meme. God is NOT saying in this passage that HE will make the people eat their children. He is saying that if they continue to rebel then He will punish them, which is done by His abandonment (removal of His protection). First, let’s read this from the King James Version:

Lev 26:27  And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me;
Lev 26:28  Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.
Lev 26:29  And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.

Now, let us go to another passage of Scripture to see how God expresses His “fury” or, rather, His “anger”:

Deu 31:16  And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, whither they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them.
Deu 31:17  Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us, because our God is not among us?
Deu 31:18  And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evils which they shall have wrought, in that they are turned unto other gods.

Another translation renders the former part of verse 17 as follows: “When they do, I’ll be furious with them and abandon them. I won’t look on them when they pray. I won’t protect them, and they’ll be eaten alive.” (The VOICE Translation).

Rebellion against God is pushing God away and telling Him that He is no longer needed. God, being the "gentleman" that He is, will, after much unheeded pleading and warning, finally allow us to have what we want: "Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways" (Job 21:14). God is left with no other choice but to remove His presence, thus His protection. It is when this happens that health turns into sickness, victory over enemies turns into being defeated by them, good weather turns into bad weather, and abundance turns into lack (often referred to in Scripture as "famine").

The VOICE Translation gives a clearer rendering of Leviticus 26:27-29:

27 If, after all this, you still do not listen to Me but continue to rebel against Me,
28 I will move against you with the full heat of My fury. I will punish you Myself until you have paid seven times for your sins.
29 You will become so hungry that some of you will eat the flesh of your own sons and daughters.

As we can see from Deut. 31:17 God's "anger" or "fury" is expressed by His "forsaking" or "abandonment" (See also Isa. 34:2; Jer. 33:5; Eze. 16:38-39). Most of us would not stay where we are not wanted so why would we launch a campaign of hatred against God for not forcing Himself and His protection on people? If people reject God's blessing then it will lead to things going horrible for them (lack of food being one of them). This in turn will lead to aberrant behavior (eating one's own children. See 2 Kings 6:26-30 for an example of this warning fulfilled).

While God will warn people that this will happen when they rebel, He is not at fault for it happening when it occurs.
