Calvinist Proof-Texts
Answered
“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed
to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many
brethren.” (Romans 8:29)
Does
God Predestine Everything? (Part 1)
“For those on whom He set His heart beforehand He marked
off as His own to be made like His Son, that He might be the eldest of many
brothers” (Rom. 8:29; Williams New Testament)
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed
by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and
acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Rom. 12:2)
“But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision
for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.” (Romans 13:14)
Commentary: Being predestinated to be “conformed to”
or “made like Christ” is not something that happens apart from our will. God
“marked us out” for this purpose but we must cooperate with Him in the
procedure of making it happen. It is the choice of every “marked out” child of
God to be “conformed” to the world or to be “transformed” by renewing our minds
through God’s Word. Being “marked out” or “predestinated” does not negate
free-will. Therefore, Calvinists have twisted the word from its true meaning in
order for it to fit a false narrative.
