Calvinist Proof-Texts
Answered
“Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and
whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also
glorified.” (Romans 8:30)
Does
God Predestine Everything? (Part 2)
“Because I have called, and ye refused; I have
stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; But ye have set at nought all
my counsel, and would none of my reproof.” (Proverbs 1:24-25)
“And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the
Lord, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and
I called you, but ye answered not.” (Jeremiah 7:13)
“See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if
they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we
escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven.” (Hebrews 12:25)
Commentary: Calvinists put forth a false teaching
called an “effectual call” whereby the elected one receives an irresistible
grace that regenerates him apart from his willing cooperation. However, as
Scripture has plainly shown us, the “call” of God is not an irresistible call
but can certainly be resisted. As one theologian wrote, “The Word of God seems
to know nothing about it. It speaks, indeed, of Regeneration, but that is
clearly nothing like the Effectual Call” (“The Two Regenrations” in The
Church Review, Volume 14, p. 538).
