Our Difficulty Obeying Christ's Commision to Share the Gospel

Yesterday I was walking and contemplating on why we find it so difficult to obey God in evangelizing the lost. Then the Lord brought to my mind two passages of Scripture:

"....the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." (Matt. 26:41b)

"But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway." (1 Cor. 9:27)

Matthew 26:41 tells us why we have such a difficult time sharing the gospel. We know that we should and we want to obey Christ's commission to do it, but our flesh is weak. It wants relaxation and entertainment. That is why "church programs" with good singing and motivational preaching are more enjoyable to the flesh than knocking on doors and telling people about Jesus.

The second passage tells us what we must do with the flesh. We cannot allow it to tell us what to do. We must command our bodies to overcome fear and laziness. We must remind our bodies that we are responsible for those people around us who may die and spend an eternity without Jesus. We must tell our bodies to shake off its desire for fleshly indulgences and share Jesus.

This coming Saturday at 10am our church will be spending some time in the surrounding area to share the love of Jesus with the lost. But even if you can't come to be a part of what we are doing please tell a neighbor, a friend, a relative, a co-worker, someone you see in the subway or bus stop, that Jesus loves them and wants to spend eternity with them.
