“He promises to protect us from physical ills. This undoubtedly denotes disease of every kind, for here the severest of all forms is mentioned—“the deadly pestilence” (Psalm 91:3). And if we are promised exemption from this, it includes all lesser forms. This must, of course, be preceeded by the other promise. We must be saved first from spiritual evil. But if we are, we shall be kept from physical evil.”

Did Jesus Ever Sin?
Did Jesus Ever Sin?
By Troy J. Edwards
A
friend of mine shared the following statistic:
“The latest findings from
The American Worldview Inventory 2020 (AWVI 2020) show that some 44 percent of
American believers think that Jesus sinned.”
How
can 44% of “believers” believe this lie from the pit of hell? This is due to
the fact that most people no longer see the Bible as inerrant or infallible.
They don’t even see it as God's written Word. They believe that it contains
God’s Word but it is not God’s Word. It is “inspired” as
any other wonderful piece of literature (Shakespeare, the Koran, etc.). If they
truly believed the Bible as the inerrant written message from God then they
would never question the holiness or deity of our Lord.
The Bible is clear that Jesus never sinned:
The Bible is clear that Jesus never sinned:
For we have not an high
priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in
all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. (Hebrews 4:15)
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (2 Cor. 5:21)
And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. (1 John 3:5)
For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: (1 Peter. 2:21-22)
For my part, I believe what the Bible says without question. He never sinned and because He never sinned He was able to redeem me from my sin. I sinned but He didn’t and His never sinning gives me the power over sin and wipes away the record of my past sins.

Did God Bring Evil on Job?
The discerning reader learns at least TWO things when they read chapters 1 and 2 of the book of Job:
1. Satan is the instigator, author, and source of Job's trials.
2. God, in Old Testament idiomatic style, takes responsibility as if He did it.
Job is the key to interpreting all the Old Testament where God is said to inflict sickness, disease and tragedy. All such passages are to be read in a "permissive" rather than in a "causative" sense.
Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold. (Job 2:3; King James Version)
Then all his brothers and sisters, and all the people who had known him before, came to his house, and they had a feast together. They consoled him because of all the troubles that Yahweh had allowed to happen to him. Each of them gave Job a piece of silver and a gold ring. (Unlocked Dynamic Bible)

God is Not the Author of Sickness (Robert Eyton)
“He is not the Author of evil, either of sin or of its terrible progeny, disease and death; we have no right to say even that God sends sickness or death, or that such things are due directly to the Will of God.”

Likewise Shall My Heavenly Father Do To You
Likewise Shall My Heavenly Father Do To
You
Troy J. Edwards
I
received the following question which I thought was worth sharing:
Hello sir, I read a book
on ********* website on forgiveness. I have a question sir, my question is
please can you explain Jesus parable about forgiveness in Mathew 18 vs 35, and
also can you explain Romans 8 vs 13.
I would be so glad if you
grant my request
Thank you sir
Brother
*********, thank you for your question. In Matthew 18:35 Jesus said:
So likewise shall my
heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one
his brother their trespasses.
This
does seem harsh when left by itself, but it also fails to explain exactly what
Jesus will do unto us if we fail to forgive. Therefore, let us read it in
context with verse 34:
Mat 18:34 And his
lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he
should pay all that was due unto him.
Mat 18:35 So
likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts
forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.
What
does Jesus say God will do? In His “wrath” God will deliver the
unforgiving servant to tormentors. We find a similar statement being made in
Psalm 78:62 where we are told, “And delivered up his people
unto the sword, and was very wroth with his inheritance” (Darby
Translation). A more modern translation reads, “He allowed His people
to be killed with the sword. And He was very angry with those who belong to
Him” (New Life Version)
Therefore,
God’s wrath is permissive and not causative. The Greek word for
“deliver” in Matthew 18:34 is paradidōmi. Romans 1:18 says, “For the
wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and
unrighteousness of men.” Verses 24, 26, and 28 explain how this “wrath of
God” works. I think it should be enough to only quote verse 24:
Wherefore God also gave
them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour
their own bodies between themselves.
“Gave
them up” comes from the exact same Greek word. Again, the New Life Version is
helpful: “So God let them follow the desires of their sinful hearts”
or as the New International Reader’s Version says, “So God let them
go. He allowed them to do what their sinful hearts wanted to.” The
“tormentors” are Satan and his demons who God reluctantly delivers the
disobedient over:
To deliver such
an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be
saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. (1 Cor. 5:5)
Satan
rightfully demands such people to sift as wheat because, by their
unforgiveness, they become his by legal right (Luke 22:31). Therefore, while
God will not personally act upon the unforgiving servant, He has no choice but
to permit the person to suffer the consequences of their own rebellion if they
refuse to repent.
Your
second question concerned Romans 8:13 which says, “For if ye live after the
flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the
body, ye shall live.” This one is a little simpler. James tells us that “sin,
when it is finished, bringeth forth death” (James 1:14; see also Romans
5:12; 6:23).
This
is not saying that God will personally kill anyone if they live after the
flesh. It is warning us about the principle of sowing and reaping in which sin
has the tendency to bring forth the fruit of death:
Gal 6:7 Be not
deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also
reap.
Gal 6:8 For he
that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that
soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
Sin
pays its own wages in full. It separates us from our God who is life. It plants
seeds and brings forth a destructive harvest. However, none of this is God’s
doing. He does not personally kill or destroy. We do it to ourselves through
the “sowing and reaping” process.
I
hope this has helped. Let me know if you have any other questions.

wrath, we highly recommend our latest book,

Executed.”

HOW God Judges
Still hoping to do a teaching this week on HOW God judges, which is very important in light of the many that are screaming about God "sending" this virus as a "judgment" (as if sickness and disease originates with Him). However, allow me to at least enlighten you with this small kernel of truth:
God does NOT PERSONALLY bring destruction upon men. His JUDGMENT usually entails His finally stepping aside and no longer interfering with men's choices and their consequences. This is how we are to understand God's method of judgment.

28 Since they did not consider worth their while to acknowledge God in the way they lived, GOD'S JUDGMENT WAS TO ABANDON THEM TO THE FURTHER CONSEQUENCES of their own degenerated minds and outrageous conduct. (Romans 1:28; Living Waters Translation)

Claiming and Speaking Health and Prosperity
Claiming and Speaking Health and
Prosperity
By Troy J. Edwards
While
working on the revision of my book “Does God Send Sickness?” I decided to take
a look at 3 John 2. In this passage, God inspired John to write:
Beloved, I wish above all
things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
There
are those who believe that the above is nothing more than a mere greeting to
the man named Gaius mentioned in verse 1 and has no relevance to anyone else.
I, of course, disagree with those who make this claim. Paul said that all Scripture
is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for us (2 Tim. 3:16).
If
John’s wish for Gaius has no relevance to us then it is not Scripture. But how
can one claim that a certain passage is not Scripture but another is? Who gives
anyone that authority to pick and choose for us which portions of the Bible are
divinely inspired and relevant for us and which are not? No one. Therefore, we
must ignore those who make such claims.
It
is my usual habit one studying a passage to read it in multiple English
translations The most interesting translation of the passage was found in the
Jonathan Mitchell New Testament. I am going to take the liberty to emphasize
(bolden) the portions that make it interesting to me:
O beloved one! I am
continuously having (or: thinking and speaking) goodness, ease and
well-being (or: wishing and professing loudly; claiming) concerning all things
[for] you to be constantly having a prosperous journey (or: to
progressively travel a good path; to habitually be prospered unto success; to
be continuously helped along the Way) and to be constantly sound and healthy
[in mind, thought and body] just as (or: to the same degree as) your soul
(inner being; or: = your life) is progressively being prospered on its journey
(helped along the Way; prospered unto success; caused to travel the Good Path).
If
Mitchell’s expanded translation is accurate then it would seem that the Apostle
John believed in speaking and claiming health, success, and prosperity over his
friends. Perhaps that “name it and claim it” stuff that is often criticized by
anti-Word-Faith heresy hunters might have a plain Biblical merit after all.
My
advice, parents, speak health, prosperity and success over your children and
families. Pastors, speak it over your congregation. Speak it over yourself and
anyone under your sphere of influence. It is God’s wish for us, Jesus died that
we may have it, so why not speak it and claim it. Amen.

Psalm 112:7 - Paraphrase and Exposition
This paraphrase is justified by the following Scriptures:
1. Satan is the "god" and prince of this world and controls the secular news media (John 12:31; 14:30; 16:11; 2 Cor. 4:4; Eph. 2:2; 6:12; 1 John 5:18-19).
2. All fear originates with Satan and not with God (Heb. 2:14-15; 2 Tim. 1:7; 1 John 4:17-18)
3. God's Word, which contain His promises, must be stored in our hearts in order for them to be fixed (Psalm 1:1-3; 119:11; Prov. 4:20-23; Luke 6:45-49).
4. God's Word, which contains His promises, is the basis of faith and trust in God (2 Samuel 22:31; Psalm 18:30; 56:4; 119:42; 30:5; Rom. 10:17; Eph. 1:13; 1 Thess. 2:13).
5. Those who focus on God's promises rather than "evil tidings" or "bad news" will never find themselves in fear (Psalm 23:4; 27:1-5; 46:1-2; 56:3, 4, 10, 11; 91; Isaiah 12:2). The secular news media is constantly spouting off bad news and very rarely, if ever, do they broadcast anything that glorifies God.
6. A true knowledge of God's character of love in which God protects and heals rather than inflicts, hurts, and punishes will enable us to love and trust Him (Jer. 9:24). However, it is difficult to see this about God if we are listening to the secular news media, who will often only acknowledge God only if they desire to blame Him for some disastrous event (calling it an "act of God"). God, on the other hand, makes a sharp distinction between His works and that of the devil's (John 10:10; Luke 13:16; Job 2:7; Acts 10:38; 1 Pet. 5:7-10; Heb. 2:14-15; 1 John 3:8).

Judgment and Repentance
Two phrases that have come up since this pandemic has been "God's judgment" and "repentance." I don't have a problem with since they are Biblical. However, I take serious issue with how they are often presented. "God's judgment" is often presented as God being a stern judge who has decided to supernaturally send (or work through "secondary causes") a killer virus to kill a few thousand people. Then He wants us to fall on our knees, scream and cry in "repentance" (be sure to have plenty of tears and snot running down your nose or it is NOT true repentance).
God did NOT send this pandemic nor did He want it. Jesus died to free us from sickness and disease. But if we want to reject what Christ has done for us and persist in sin then God allows us to have what we want ("judgment) until we see that we don't like what we initially wanted, turn back to God (repentance), and then God steps in to deliver.
I hope to be able to do a thorough Bible study on this subject next week. In the meantime, I highly recommend some of our material on this subject. One of them being my book, "How? A look at God’s character in light of Biblical passages that are inconsistent with love."

Wrath Has Gone Out from God’s Presence
Wrath Has Gone Out from God’s Presence
By Troy J. Edwards
Num 16:45 Get you
up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And
they fell upon their faces.
Num 16:46 And Moses
said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and
put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for
them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun.
Very
often when we declare the truth that God is good and that no evil (sickness,
disease, tragedy, etc.) is authored by Him we are challenged with Scripture
quotes that supposedly speak to the contrary. Recently, the passage above was
quoted as a refutation to one of our teachings (though no exposition of the
verse was given despite my request for the person to do so).
We
have already expounded upon the above passage in our book, Does God Send
Sickness (I recommend waiting for the revised edition to be completed)
and our most recent book, The Wrath of God: What it is and How it is
Executed. However, it will not hurt to touch on it briefly in this
blog, though we highly recommend our aforementioned books to get a fuller
explanation of our understanding of the text.
One
must keep the important truth in mind that the Bible is a progressive
revelation. This means that since God was dealing with a nation (Israel)
whose minds were still influenced by the pagan cultures surrounding them, they
were not ready for a full revelation of God’s character and the ongoing warfare
between the kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness. Therefore, God had to
speak to them in terms by which He took responsibility for anything that
happened to Israel and that came as a result of their sin.
Nevertheless,
as the Israelites began to learn more truth in incremental stages and their
minds adapted more towards divine thinking, then revelation progressed. With
this progression of revelation God could not only reveal more truth about
Himself and more thoroughly expose the true author and source of evil, which is
Satan, He was also able to shed more light on some passages of Scripture in
which He took responsibility for evil works such as sickness and disease.
One
of the passages in which God was able to shed more light on was Numbers
16:45-46. In 1 Corinthians 10, Paul’s divinely inspired comments on this
passage show us that it was not God but another agent that brought this plague
on Israel:
Neither murmur ye, as
some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. (1
Cor. 10:10)
Paul
says that the “wrath” which had “gone out from the LORD” that resulted in a
plague was accomplished by an entity known as “the destroyer”. The God’s Word
translation renders 1 Cor. 10:10, “Don’t complain as some of them did. The angel
of death destroyed them.” This belief that “the destroyer” is the
“angel of death” is affirmed by numerous scholars and commentators.
There
is only one “angel of death” and that is the fallen angel now known as the
devil and Satan. It is he who had the power of death:
Forasmuch then as the children
are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the
same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death,
that is, the devil (Hebrew 2:14)
It
is the devil who “cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy”
(John 10:10). Therefore, Satan is the destroyer or death angel. Sickness
originates with him (Job 2:7; Luke 13:16; Acts 10:38). Because of Israel’s
constant rebellion God was left with no choice but to “deliver such an one
unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh” (1 Cor. 5:5). Thus, 1 Cor.
10:10 provides an excellent explanation for the events that took place in
Numbers 16. This was not God’s doing but Satan’s. As the late Puritan minister,
Cotton Mather wrote:
“It is said of the
Israelites, in 1 Cor. 10.10, They were destroyed of the destroyer. That is,
they had the Plague among them. ‘Tis the Destroyer, or the Devil, that scatters
Plagues about the World.” (Cotton Mather, The Wonders of the Invisible World,
p. 52)
This
should be our understanding of all Old Testament Scriptures in which God is
seen to be the responsible agent for sickness and disease. He is only said to
be the author of such in a permissive rather than in a causative
sense (see James 1:13; 2 Sam. 24:1; 1 Chron. 21:1). The true agent behind
sickness and disease in both the Old and New Testaments is Satan. Therefore,
sickness is never to be accepted as coming from God’s hand but from Satan’s. Therefore,
sickness is not to be accepted but resisted in the authority of Jesus’ Name.
For more information about how God exercises His
wrath, we highly recommend our latest book,
“The Wrath of God: What it is and How it is
Executed.”

Fear in Pandemics Originate with Satan and not God
During times of national or international pandemics, many people become afraid. Part of the reason is due to either a lack of knowledge of God’s love, a failure to trust God, or a distorted view of God’s character. When we recognize that God is deeply in love with us and has promised to protect us then we will break the cycle of fear. Psalm 112:7; a paraphrase by Pastor Troy J. Edwards:
Psalm 112:7; a paraphrase by Pastor Troy J. Edwards:
"He shall not be afraid of the bad news propagated by the secular news media, who happens to be the voice and herald of Satan, continually propagating fear and distress: his heart is fixed on God's promises of love, protection and healing, trusting in the LORD Jesus, who loves him, answers his prayers, and would never personally do him any harm."
