This paraphrase is justified by the following Scriptures:
1. Satan is the "god" and prince of this world and controls the secular news media (John 12:31; 14:30; 16:11; 2 Cor. 4:4; Eph. 2:2; 6:12; 1 John 5:18-19).
2. All fear originates with Satan and not with God (Heb. 2:14-15; 2 Tim. 1:7; 1 John 4:17-18)
3. God's Word, which contain His promises, must be stored in our hearts in order for them to be fixed (Psalm 1:1-3; 119:11; Prov. 4:20-23; Luke 6:45-49).
4. God's Word, which contains His promises, is the basis of faith and trust in God (2 Samuel 22:31; Psalm 18:30; 56:4; 119:42; 30:5; Rom. 10:17; Eph. 1:13; 1 Thess. 2:13).
5. Those who focus on God's promises rather than "evil tidings" or "bad news" will never find themselves in fear (Psalm 23:4; 27:1-5; 46:1-2; 56:3, 4, 10, 11; 91; Isaiah 12:2). The secular news media is constantly spouting off bad news and very rarely, if ever, do they broadcast anything that glorifies God.
6. A true knowledge of God's character of love in which God protects and heals rather than inflicts, hurts, and punishes will enable us to love and trust Him (Jer. 9:24). However, it is difficult to see this about God if we are listening to the secular news media, who will often only acknowledge God only if they desire to blame Him for some disastrous event (calling it an "act of God"). God, on the other hand, makes a sharp distinction between His works and that of the devil's (John 10:10; Luke 13:16; Job 2:7; Acts 10:38; 1 Pet. 5:7-10; Heb. 2:14-15; 1 John 3:8).
