".... the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you." (Exodus 12:23b)
Sadly, there are some theologians who believe that the destroyer was one of God's loyal angels (or even God Himself). This is not supported by Scripture as a whole nor by historical data. As one person noted:
"According to primitive notions, 'the destroyer' would mean the demons of disease and death. It is against such evils as these that the sprinkled blood gives protection."
