If you really want to know what God is like, do not listen to the theologians or read their books. Many theologians, especially those of the Calvinist ideology, have no idea about God's true character.
The truth about what God is like, how He acts towards His creation, and the type of personality He exhibits is on full display through Jesus Christ. If you want to know what God is like, read the gospels and look at the life of Jesus. If the Father had come to earth rather than Jesus, the history of the gospels would have been no different.
Jesus' desire was to love men draw them to Himself. He never inflicted any sickness or disease on anyone. On the contrary, He delivered them from this satanic oppression (Luke 13:16; Acts 10:38). While He warned about the inevitable consequences of sin He never condemned anyone but forgave sin. He never made anyone poor but supplied their needs.
Jesus loved and cared for the most vile sinner and received them. It was by this love, rather than some irresistible force or decree, that changed people, made them desire to forsake a life of sin, and follow Him. If you want to know what the Father is lie, look at the Son.
