GNOSTICISM and CALVINISM on FREE-WILL

GNOSTICISM and CALVINISM on FREE-WILL

AUGUSTINE, father of Calvinism: "It is, therefore, in the power of the wicked to sin; but that in sinning they should do this or that by that wickedness is not in their power, but in God's, who divides the darkness and regulates it; so that hence even what they do contrary to God’s will is not fulfilled except it be God's will." - Saint Augustine, On the Predestination of the Saints (Book I, Chap. 33)

GNOSTICISM, grandfather of Calvinism, as church father Methodius explains: "Those [pagans] who decide that man does not have free will, but say that he is governed by the unavoidable necessities of fate, are guilty of impiety toward God Himself, making Him out to be the cause and author of human evils." Methodius (The Banquet of the Ten Virgins discourse 8, chap. 16).
